Alain Le Garsmeur

Alain Le Garsmuer was born in 1943 in France. He traveled to London to attend The Ealing College of Art Photography School where after two years he became an assistant to such great photographers as Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin and Donald Silverstein, working in both Paris and London. In 1970 he branched out on his own and over the following two decades freelanced firstly for The Sunday Times Magazine, then The Observer Magazine. It was during this time that Alain was assigned to shoot a spread on Status Quo, at The Wembley Empire Pool. Alain traveled extensively while working on assignment for many foreign publications including, Figaro, The Independent, Geo Magazine, Newsweek and Infinito.

In 1986 Alain received The World Press Award , 1st Prize in the “Daily Life” category for a photo taken while on assignment in China for The Observer Magazine.

Alain now resides and works in Northern Ireland.
